Seems like more and more people have started to use GTalk since it integrated with Gmail, I still only ever have a few conversations on there compared to all the other IM accounts I have.
Gee, download Google Talk client or any other Jabber-compatible client and stop whining for fuck’s sake! Obviously web based chats always have issues with caching, proxy servers, etc – so fuck them and use Google Talk if you really need communication.
I’ve set up an irc server for anyone interested in podcast chat in general. It’s open to everyone. It’s nothing fancy, just a basic IRC server. Feel free to use it, but please be nice to it.

Try relogging. It’ll do this to me sometimes, and relogging usually fixes it.
