just now downloading but wanted to mention that the main page at the site crashes any browser i open — probably a configuration thing on my end (i’m on a mac powerbook g4 with 1 gb ram and a 1.25 ghz pwerpc running osx 10.3.9) — but this happens with safari, firefox, and i even opened the dreaded internet exploder to see if it worked
this happens even after a hard boot with nothing else running…started happening on the pdnbeta site the day of the unleash…no problems before that
if i go noe.podshow.com first, i can navigate around to everything except the podshow homepage

I was on your site AdamC, mate! Note however that still some podcasters complain that link to their shows is too deeply hidden and uses intermediary subpage. To get good promotion etc you should tell Podshow Inc folks to put link to the original website of given podcast on the main page of given podcast on the podshow website! The issue of feed seems to be resolved and this remains one open issue that bothers some podcasters (not myself) who told me it.
Anyway: good luck with podshow+ – the brutal truth is that it all boils down to number of active users – and to profitability of Podshow Inc company in long term. I wish you luck.
BTW: I am thinking about a comic drawing about “launch of Podshow+ ” – I will draw and publish it today or tomorrow!
I was on your SIDE, not just site
Good show today, the only problem I am having is that podcasts like mine that are switching over from an external podcast provioder like Podomatic have a hard time figuring out how exactly how to switch the feeds using the feed vacum. Also, then the show pop’s up twice in the Podshow+ interface.
Anyways, good show, and that instrumental music is pretty damn good. Maybe make a bunch of easy to follow tutorials for beginners, especially people that come to the site that are new to podcasting.
Still a little confused about all of this, but hey, it’s a beta.

I agree with Jon. How about a Techtard podcast with episodes devoted to various parts of the PD+ ? If it was done as a step by step process, then one could listen (watch?) the podcast WHILE going through the actual steps on PD+. I hate tutorials that make you watch a whole string of steps and then go back and try to replicate the whole thing on the live site. Maybe a vidcast of each step hosted by different members of the PD+ team? ohhh, I’d like that.

I tried to update my download of podsavethequeen and noticed that I needed to change the subscription URL. I assume it changed since the unleash. Finding it was non-trivial. I went to accidenthash.podshow.com and noticed that there wasn’t any obvious button or link that would simply give me the “subscribe to show” URL to put into jmy podcast subscription client. Seems like this would be an item that would be quite prominent. I would like to suggest making subscribing links and URL’s very easy to find.
And, another thing…. Can DSC listeners get to the new location for the Curry Castle in Second LIfe? If so, how?

@Bob: You can click on the iTunes icon, or click on ‘get it’ to add it to a channel of one or infinite number of podcasts. Clciking on the iTunes icon on a channel will subscribe you to all the podcasts in a channel.
Like Jon I also am a little confused about the vacuum process. I’m using WordPress and wonder how to insert that code into the description without it showing up on my site as a long string of characters. Anyone know where I can find out how to do this?
Brian, just create a post on your WP weblog and paste the vaccuum code into the post. The vaccuum will pick it up from there.
I have to agree with bob. You go to the main podcast page on Podshow and there’s no obvious link to get the URL for the Podcast feed….a XML link, a RSS link, a iTunes Link…..SOMETHING…..it should be on the VERY first page when you go to the podcast page. For example if you go to my new show’s website at: http://digitaldistractionpodcast.podshow.com/ there’s no link to the shows feed anywhere on this page. I don’t know manybe I am missing an option somewhere but I think that a link to the feed should be right on this page.
Subscribing to a whole channel may be useful if, say you have your setup with a brand new Windows install and with iTunes, but After that it’s kind of difficult to manage it when you just want to add ONE show to your podcatcher/iTunes whatever.
With all of that said, I do like how it’s easy to find new shows and you are always seeing new stuff on your main page in the Podshow+ interface. Pretty nice.

Yes, the code is only needed so your show can’t be sucked in by anyone else. Once vaccuumed you can delete the post with the code.

AC, Did it. Now P+ says my subdomain name (audioattitude) is already taken. ????
http://audioattitude.podshow.com/ appears to be your PS+ name. You might have preregistered with your show name instead of your desired identity on the network.
Choose another name for now and try the vaccuum again. We will be switching people in similar situation asap, hopefully giving a tool to do this with yourself.
I should add that the domain feature allows you to create a unique name.podshow.com url for any and as many shows as you can bake. Each of those can in turn be mapped to a domainname of your choosing, like audioattitude.com
Get it only shows up if your LOGGED IN to Podshow+. When you are not logged in it does not show up. When logged in the get it link is there, but all it does is add it to one of your channels. What I am saying is there should be a way to get the feed right from this page and have it go to iTunes or you copy/paste it into iJuice or whatever podcatcher you use. Only thing get it does is add it to a channel. I DO see that you can subcribe to the whole channel and that works and the one advantage that this has is as you navigate the Podshow site and add channels to one of your channels, it adds it automatically to your channel’s rss feed and it automatically gets downloaded next time itunes goes out and gets it. The only disadvantage is if you use iTune’s management features. If you have your machine shut off, will it download the whole thing or just the latest show? One thing is this way you don’t have to copy/paste a URL. I get it now…..but now I will have to rebuild everything already in my iTunes Podcast feature. I’ll also try exporting my list to a OPML file and importing that….and undo it a bit. This is a new way and if your really used to the old way it’s a bit confusing. To new users, this may be a bit more intuitive.
Gork, I am on your wavelength. For me, this may take some getting acquainted with the new site and what it does. For now, I am not changing my iTunes setup. I recently switched to iTunes from Juice and just got everything under control and to my liking there. I signed up for Podshow and love that I got my real name there too. It is hard to get Bob Evans since there are simply too many of us.

ok – I’m getting the hang of it…already starting to think about what I’d like to see in the next version or in a future update. The biggie would be a built in aggregator. I generally put my podcasts into a playlist every morning, transfer to my mp3 player, and then shuffle through the playlist as the day goes on as the day goes. I’m not sure how often I’ll be using the streaming channel feature or one big download. In short, more pod in the show, please.

It’s an aggregator!
Check it out: Make a channel with shows you want on your ipod.
Next expand the channel by clicking on the white arrow under the channle name.
From the ‘DownloaderPreferences’ select iTunes
iTunes will now subscribe to all the shows in that channel and name it whatever you named the channel! Add more show to your channel, they show up on the ipod automagically. Delete a show and it stops downloading that show.
We built the system to help you make and mash your own ‘feeds’ that will work on any device that supports RSS. Meaning TiVo, IPTV, iPod, WMP, Winamp etc etc. You can do it all in one place and make as many channels as you wish. You can even make a (private) channel for just one person and add shows for them.

Am I correct in continuing to put shows on my site, then asking Podshow to vacuum? God knows my shows could benefit from a good cleaning.

Looking good Adam. The only problem I have is being able to delete any duplicates of my show that appear from iPodder and Podcast Alley being imported into the PodShow+ directory (I’m assuming here).

Regarding vaccuuming, remember that all your media files are also being sucked over, so the total wait time will depend on number of files, filesize and speed of transfer from your server.
Hey Adam…posted the followin gon my podshow blog….
I like the idea of the web aggregator, however I also like the simplicity of a blog type page with the posts and the links for XML feed for using iTunes, Bashpodder….etc. When you go to the main page for a show on Podshow thier REALLY needs to be a series of different links for getting the RSS into the aggregator….NOT the web aggregator, the aggregator we already have. Yes, you can click the little arrow, and click the iTunes link, however iTunes treats the whole channel as ONE show. Not ideal if you ask me. What I would rather see as a OPML file instead of a RSS feed. We can update our aggregators when we want to….HEY here’s an idea…..could a Applescript, PERL Script or Batch file or a simple program be written to automagically grab a OPML file that matches the podshow channel in question and then BOOM….the OPML gets imported into iTunes or your favorite podcatcher. Sounds like a good idea to me! The idea is that each show would still be treated separately by the podcatcher. Why is this important? The way iTiunes manages podcasts it has a nice visual indicator for each feed that has a new show. You can very quickly look for the little blue dot and read the show name to find out if there’s a new DSC or Trucker Tom or etc. When they are all lumped, you get just a list of individual files. Anyway, I will have to check the page in Linux again to see if the fixed the Flash issues.
Oh and I don’t mean to sound like I am shitting on your whole idea. The idea is good, it just needs a few tweaks to make it work a bit better. Right now you have to change the whol eway it works to this new way where you essentially have one feed only in your podcast aggregator instead of the myriad of feeds you had before. Granted, this is EXACTLY how ODEO works too.

That is indeed quite cool, similar to what the Podcaster News Network has with their MyCast. I’m starting to get the idea about how all the stuff works. Neat.

Gork – absolutely agree with you in regards to the channel as a single feed. I also use iTunes as my aggregator and just spend a moment trying out the feed I created – and then deleted it right away. This is just not the way I (and I assume most people) manage their podcasts. Some shows, for example, I don’t synch with my iPod and for others I like to keep control over what episodes I delete and which to keep.
With the podshow channel, I especially miss the easy visual sign of when a show was updated, as the channel feed only tells me that ’something’ was updated. With that, I also will also miss the different ‘artist’ entries in my podcast folder on the iPod, I assume, though I have not tested that yet.
OPML would definitely be better, but iTunes does not support it, as far as I know, so an external tool is probably the way to go – or just keep using iTunes – as a directory, it has served me better than any other so far.
Started with Podshow+ today. Looks cool Adam. Will be trying it out in the upcoming weeks to see what is possible. I love the Find-function and the resultst that are showing: amazingly good. I love it!

I vacuum my feedburner feed but he catches also my written postings from my weblog. Is it possible to select that the feed only takes the enclosures? Anybody have this problem also and maybe can give some advice? Thanks.

iTunes does support OPML…..exports at least. I think I also remember importing a OPML file.
Gork – I didn’t know that. Just tried importing the OPML I exported from my feedreader. iTunes aks: Do you want to imnport these 31 podcasts. I say yes and they show up nice and clean in the podcasts section (not all are podcasts, of course). Given this, using OPML should definitely be a possibility and something podshow should look into.
Hi Adam, I’m just a ludite listener hear and tend to download your show manually and then move it to my MP3 player. I was a little disconcerted with the new site because there was no obvious link to your show file. However, plugging the XML feed into Sage (Firefox Feed Reader) solves the problem and enables me to download the MP3 files to your show. Love the show, it was my first podcast and now I listen to three other regularly. Regards JB
CSB: You are right. The spec called for the ‘go to show’s site’ to go to the original webpage if the show is not on the network. This will certainly change.
Well, I’m getting used to the idea of use MyPage at Podshow to aggregate the feeds that I don’t filter before they go to the iPod. I like the site. I have seen a few anomalies already though. Not complaining, just informing. I built a channel yesterday. It was gone today. I rebuilt it. My subscriptions are limited to 4 shows that are on PodShow and ITConversations. ITConversations is too prolific for me to just let ‘em go direct to the iPod. So, I am thinking I will use the aggregate of the others. And, there couldn’t be an easier way to share my feed should someone else share the same exact taste.

Hello Adam, I sent a comment via the website about a bug I have found but never recieved a responce so I thought I would try here. I did 2 podcasts on the same day (show 0012 and 0013) one posted at 12am and the other posted 10pm. The problem is that on podshow+ show 0012 is listed as being newer that show 0013. It seems that podshow+ just ignores the am/pm part and as 12 is bigger than 10 lists show 0012 as being newer. You can see this at my show page here or via my profile page here. Adam–I want to believe that this isn’t being done deliberately, but from what I can see shows have been a. added to Podshow+ without approval of said podcasts and b. all elements of said shows’ websites are listed as essentially belonging to Podshow+–not just the website stuff which has already been discussed, but even the mp3 files themselves (which currently seem to redirect to somewhere in Podshow, not to our feed directly). For instance, our show Upon Further Review was NEVER submitted to your directory, nor had we any interest in being on it until we had a chance to ascertain how things were going to be run (and please note I’m not just talking about being involved with Podshow advertising wing or something–I mean we never submitted anything to you guys for any part of Podshow+ at all. We assume you got our show from Podcast Alley, but that doesn’t make this evident rebranding without our permission any more appropriate). This opening salvo isn’t making us feel any better about Podshow’s motives. I have thought you in the past to be a reasonable person–please confirm that by removing us from Podshow + and explaining why we ended up on the directory in the first place.
