Had a nice email chat with Jason Calcanis this morning. Our dialog was in regards to these posts about our PodShow.com directory page.
Let me preface by saying the directory page on our site is a placeholder for the integration of the Podcast Alley directory accross PodShow, so this conversation came at a helpful moment in our development.
The omission of a link to a Show’s website is a mistake. The ‘wimpy player’ is being phased out in 2 weeks time with a player that will carry RSS information along with the audio, which is also desired.
I really made a rookie aviation mistake on trying to figure out what was wrong with the ‘balance’ between content and advertising on the page. When navigating visually from the air, newbies often look for small details to compare to a map, when they should look for the obvious, like a lake, or that bigg-ass mountain ahead 
It’s the album art. The default placeholder is our headphone head, which is used if no channel image is available in the rss feed. There may be an image that we aren’t picking up, but that should be easy to fix.
The default should probably be stylized text of rss info, including a show site link etc. Currently there are links for details on the show that bring up the associated PCA pages. As I said, placeholder stuff until we get everything integrated.
I’m glad this happened with properties Jason oversees. We’ve known each other for many years and have a very respectful relationship. Jason has a lot of experience with these issues and I look forward to working with him on finding the right balance in our directory displays.
AC, if you wanna sell Podshow Inc for 20 million USD then just tell it Jason Calacanis and he will arange it for you.
Hey, I’d just be psyched if someone at Podshow could fix my link on the Featured page… it’s pointing to a podcast alley id that doesn’t exist… the Financial Aid Podcast under Education (http://www.podshow.com/featured.html) is show 5459, not show 2873…
