Verizon had a booth set up down by the embarcadero today, so I was able to get a hands on feel of the Droid during our Sunday “walkabout”. I must say that despite my initial enthousiasm, especially for the new version of the Android software I was completely dissapointed by the experience. The Droid phone feels cheap, even a bit “rickety”. The keyboard is atrocious. Kees are too flat and closely spaced. The “mousepad” is more like a clicker than a track experience and the slide mechanism has none of the fun feel that my G1 gives when revealing the keyboard. I’m pretty much convinced I want to give the iPhone another shot. Somehow there’s just some magic in the touch screen. Hard to explain, but then again, how do you explain magic?
Adam, where do you get your news? (i sent you this email, but you can answer here).
yeah Go 4 it! Get yourself and for Micky fruitphones and then use iPhone-to-iPhone apps like whatsapp messenger app or ping! app and U2 will have so much fun like there is no tomorrow!
Magic? It’s called hype…. what you should do was give the nokia n97 which you got from nokia another try… You might also like the n900 which runs a Mameo (a Linux based OS, just like Android), the Satio from Sony Ericsson also looks pretty darn good, which sports a 12mpx camera, PS3 integration and more..
If i could choose between Android, iPhone or BlackBerry i would probably go for the BB at first. This followed by the iPhone and at a 3rd place i would place the Android phone. I think andriod like symbian, did their first years, have to evolve until its better than it is now. iPhone on second place because i just don’t like messaging on touchscreens. Although i don’t know what the RIM network has to offer more than an iPhone or Android i’d still go for the BB… Only crappy camera but al these phones have crappy cams.
Oh and Adam, by the way, Join the Zeitgeist Movement
Hey for all you Haters maybe I am just behind the times but I have had mine since the 6th and I am in love with it. I like that it is not based on the choices of “father Steve” and his foresight into my mind of what I should like but also that it is not all flashy and girlie looking. It feels rugged and well built for me but again maybe I am behind the times but I along with many others seem to like it so far.
I just left Verizon in Oct. to get the iPhone and shortly after that I found out that the Motorola Droid was coming out. Shortly after that I started to see the commercials during the MLB playoffs and World Series BASHING the iPhone. I actually started to wonder if I had made a big mistake. The morning of Nov. 6th i went straight to Verizon to see this “iPhone Killer”. wow….what a total piece of junk. The touch screen is terrible, navigation is hard, physical keyboard is useless, flimsy, and flat…i dunno…big let down. iPhone forever……..
Wow, nothing but haters here i can see. The only problem with the droid i’ve had, is the less than great keyboard. It is very flat, and hard to type, but as with ALL phones, you get use to it. I’ve been typing on it for roughly 3 weeks, and can say safely I am close to flawless. Other than that, its not slow (as some people state) navigation is as easy as all smart phones (iphone NOT being a complete smart phone) and nothing is FLIMSY about this phone.. as it feels as solid as it ever could be. Stop the hating, the phone ranks up there.
As much as I dislike the iPhone for many things, I have to agree with the poster. I was extremely disappointed with the Droid. The keyboard and phone is rickety. Typing on that keyboard is a far cry from anything close to a Blackberry or even the old Palm Treo. The OS and how it works is confusing at best. But what bothered me most was the phone build. It really doesn’t feel like it will last longer than a few weeks and I don’t see how you can get a case successfully on that slide phone. The Droid is really not an iPhone killer, unfortunately, and it’s about time that Blackberry made their Bold with a touchscreen and kill all the other phones already.
Ohhhh I loved the long lines and the campouts for the Droid. How long did you guys wait in line to get a droid. Bottom line I pHone is still the best.
Ya, that droid is terrible. I just went to the verizon store to check it out. I couldnt believe it looked some phone some centuries behind. Not to mention they did tried their best to copy iPhone.
My Telecoms Top 10…
This is a good site, thanks. We have created our own top 10 of the best touch phones of 2009, including the iPhone 3Gs, the Nokia N97, Sony Satio and more. If you get time, take a look!…
> 40 users in a corp environement using Droid, email accounts (exchange, pop3 and google) randomly disappear and need to be setup again (more than 100 times in 3 months); this phone has caused a tremendous amount of work and grief for our IT Department. Kind of like your Girlfriend you didn’t miss untill she was gone; I had no appreciate for my (or others) IPhone until Droid!
I love my Droid.
The Nokia N97 is one of the best phones that i have ever owned. It is classy but feature packed. `
??? People, U have to understand that the Droid is NEW!!! it takes some time for a phone to be out…..like the iPhone when it first came out it had tons of problems but it took 4 generations to come out as a solid phone…..so gave the Droid some time before you go doggen on it!!…PS I typed this on my Droid:)
I like the styling and egonomics of the Nokia N97. It is so much easier to carry around.~:”
I recently purchased a droid. I have now invested close to 20 hours simply trying to connect my phone with my home e:mail. I don’t think I have ever encountered a more inept customer service area, nor a worse technical team. I would encourange anyone to RUN away from a) the droid and b) Verizon. It has been a true nightmare.
Fuck my ass….. Fuck my ass…… oh…. yeah….. fuck my ass.
Nokia N97 would always be listed as one of the best phones ever manufactured;“
