I placed a comment on CSB’s blog – not sure if it will be allowed – apparently he has comments on moderation – most likely to ward off spam? here is what I said to that comic strip:

I doubt many women would agree with your assessment that he is Butt Ugly – I certainly don’t.

I color my hair too – lots of people do. I wear clothes that flatter me and ut oh – I wear make up too! wow what a revelation!

What is so odd about anything you say here? This looks like real life to me!

Of course I can change from default to save last 2…..just a shock….

About this cast….I was wondering when the percentage of *talking about podcatsing* would change
on DSC , seems to be changing a good deal lately (example 340) looking forward to Uncle Don…..

CSB: Commoners face? That has just become my new insult. Although I have absolutely no idea what it means. Its right up there with “You are very asymmetrical” Which was my previous default insult.

Roger Smalls:Going back to DSC#339 Was that a Gary Glitter reference in your Earthlink Advert?? Fantastic…..

CSB: You have a commoners face!!! Also, didn’t you at one point want Adam to remove certain comments from curry.com? Yet Dave Winer is “Evil” for removing comments? Actually I take it back. “You are very asymmetrical”.

what the fuck? first you people are angry that some people are pissed off at Denmark for drawing cartoons and now you are pissed off at me that I doodle something? For fuck’s sake what is your fucking problem? You wanna lynch me now because I like to doodle on my Tablet PC? Relax. I know that Adam Curry for some people is almost a God, but for fuck’s sake let me doodle something from time to time – you can’t compare my doodles to these cartoons from Denmark, don’t you think?

Besides: at last some important topic in this podcsat (the bird fucking flu – not funny – it will kill millions people, oh fuck fuck – I already have Tamiflu pills).

    So for fuck’s sake: relax!!!

JMJ: Go into iTunes Preferences and click “Podcasts”. Tune your settings. For example you can have iTunes keep podcasts forever until you manually delete them, keep the last 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 episodes, or delete listened episodes. What did you have it set to?

I don’t normally get angry on the internet . . . but I have to say I’m totally sick of the psycho Comic Strip Blogger. @ Adam, isn’t there some way you can get a restraining order and get this nut put in a padded cell where he belongs? . . . the best of it is that he wonders why you won’t give him a interview, – what a twat!.

  14.
    February 23, 2006 | 1:22 am

Ron: first of all you should pull out your tounge from the anus of Adam Curry – you are one of those ass kissers who defend their asskissing target no matter what. Secondly: there is freeedom of speech and I can doodle whatever I want… are you one of those fanatics, Ron, who call for beheading people because somebody was drawing something improper? I reckon you are.

Regarding not giving interview: Adam Curry gave interview to publications with 10,000 times less readers than publications to which I am writing, and I asked for it long time ago. He didn’t give it because HE is a twat that respects only ass kissers or MSM (Main Stream Media) – his whole talk about blogosphere etc is bullshit.

What-fucking-ever. Next time you speak pull out the tounge out of his ass, you fucking asskissers!

Molly, I sort of agree. This isnt really informative or useful, a vacine cannot be developed until a virus mutates, nothing new there, and this would take months to develop/make. Doesnt matter how much money you throw at it. To give example, there has been a Flu bug going round the UK. Both my wife and i have had the standard Flu Jab (being health workers). This Jab did nothing to protect us against this strain.

20k-25k people in the UK die of the flu every year, 93 (?) people have died of h5n1 worldwide in 3 years and those people had direct contact with infected birds. More people die of Polio, AIDS, etc every year.

There is no garuntee that THIS virus will mutate.

Bet on one thing there will be a world wide killer and it will spread globally. It may not be H5N1, it may not be SARS and it may not be in my life time but it will happen.

Stopped listening after 16:21. I may be getting the message wrong here but i am very concerned to here that people can talk about money and human life in the same sentence. All well and good building on practices to improve care but at a profit?

Something about this cast just didnt feel right. I felt like i was listening to an advert.

This whole Bird Flu thing is being turned into the crappy Dustin Hoffman – Outbreak film by the media. I am surprised you decided to cover this topic. What about covering world wide debt, famine, AIDS, child cruelty, all far bigger killers than H5N1 or do we ignore because this does not directly effect UK, USA, etc…..

Oh and the best thing to do with CSB is leave him be. He’s going to do what he wants, you dont have to read it.

Thats one of your American ideals? freedom of speech, no matter what?

BTW CSB, im not kissing your ass. I dont like some of your stuff, and some is inappropriate but i will defend your right to be inappropriate, even if your a bit of a twat sometimes! (haha)

It has been said before but AC can remove any comments he doesnt like, he doesnt for a reason i suppose.

Hey Adam – I know it was late when you recorded DSC 339, but you sounded totally wiped out towards the end of the show…I was rooting for you to get through line-up for Sirius! I like the herbal remedy as much as anyone, but you may want to wait to spark a fatty until the show is done.

Daddydowse, you’re spot on the advert ‘issue’.Nevertheless,if you leave development in the hands of mologs you can be absolutely sure time will run out IF the virus mutates,it simply takes a lot of time to sort out a good vacine. What Governments can do is reduce the risk of spreading Birdflue and therefore minimizing chances of an outbreak on Humans. The fact that only(!) 93 people are under jurisdiction of either God or CSB’s predessesors is no excuse of marginalising things. The Chinese Wall started off with one brick..one cannot be cautious enough in matters like this.
Having said that, what happened to the Ebola- / West Nile virusses. There is hope after all.

As I said I changed that to hold 2 podcasts

    @CSB
I enjoy your jabs, and I’m sure Adam does too.
    Greetings from Denmark /where I live/
BTW a refugee family was shown on the local TV last night, they were coming to a small commune in Denmark
after spending 14 years in a refugee camp (Iranian refugees). Met at the Airport by an imterpator and a commun social worker to get them settled .There were 7 in the family and the teenage girl
was waiving the Danish flag. Now how does it happen that a Moslem refugee can find peace in Denmark
when all these Moslem countries find it impossible to give shelter to one of their brothers ?
Well the flag waving girl will never be on .aljazeera I’ll bet.

I have to agree with others that this particular DSC left a bad taste in my mouth. The ‘worry’ about profits on the back of a potentially serious situation did not sit well with me.

Why all the fuss about Avian Flu? Don’t you know that we had a serious outbreak in the UK of this very same strain nearly ten years ago – I don’t recall the same fuss then as we are having now.

Sems to me that we are suffering from a very large does of ‘No News is Bad News’ and blowing the disease out of all proportion by our beloved media.

Yes the flu is bad for birds, yes the flu could cuase us some problems if it mutates to human-human transmission, but until it does, there is naff-all we can do about it. We can not, and should not, be stockpiling tamiflu pills or any other kind of treatment until we know how the disease will mutate. All those with their stockpiles are going to look pretty silly when they find the pills do nothing for them.

As for the risk in the western world? Personally I think it is fairly low. The reason for the human deaths so far is purely down to the close and prolonged proximity to the infected birds. We simply do not have the same farming setup here to put us at the same level of risk.

This podcast contains a lot of bullshit again, so I need too butt in:

    1) pandemic bird flu will break out – it is question of ‘when’ not of ‘if’

    2) the brutal truth is that now the mankind has no technology to create vaccine for future mutations of flu, and after break out it will take minimum 6 months to create operational vaccine

    3) the mistake of this venture capital fund is to try to accelerate vaccine creation instead of inventing wholly new ways to handle this problem (like nanobots, adaptive, gene therapy, etc). In other words they just do linear and shitty progress instead of nonlinear and revolutionary…

OK that is it – I have to post an answer to CSB much as it grates me to do so.

    (1) Yes BIRD Flu is already here – the big discussion is over whether it will transmute into a human form, at which time it ceases to be BIRD flu, but becomes a Human Flu with the catchy title of H5N1 Flu. Only at that point will we be able to build vaccines against it, as that will be the first time we know what the virus looks like.

Think of it like this: Symantec or Norton are only able to deliver virus updates for their software once they have identified the virus and what it does. This will be the same with any human vaccines that are applied to the H5N1 strain *should* it become human-infecting.

The real problem comes from the press in the way they are reporting it. I don’t know if anyone else in the UK caught Marcu Brigstock on the TV the other night talking about it. “The Bird Flu is coming….it’s coming……it’s still coming……….yep, it’s definitely on it’s way………..nope, not here yet, but just you wait………” – Just about the best bit of reporting that I have seen for a long time.

  29.
    February 24, 2006 | 3:34 pm

David Patrick: so what? you just repeated what I’ve said partially.

Of course we are still in preliminary phase where the bird flu virus has not fucked/copulated/merged with human flu virus and they bastard child, that is so deadly like bird flu and spreads from human to human, is not yet born.

But this bastard child of bird flu and human flu will be born soon and the problem is that concentrating on accelartion of vaccinee creation is bullshit and instead wholly new approaches should be tried.

I would envision solution in this way: a nanobots with sensors and nanobots with “needles” would circle in blood of human and they would a) very early detect bird flu, b) with use of A.I. they would produce chemical composition that nanobots with “needles” would distrubte and supe-robot-mama [placed near heart] would give them… and on molecular level defeat the bird flu viriuses by destroying then and then reporgramming of human DNA by gene therapy so that defense mechanism against these viruses would be from then programmedinto DNA and body of human…

… or some othe revolutionary approach. We need some total new approach and not “beating around the bush” with little-step solutions based on vaccine creation acceleration.

and regarding the pendemic paranoia being spread by press: let em’ do it – they are press and press needs some topics to live.

The interview with the VCs was a bit disappointing (appart from the audio-technical side). I think the reason is that you asked bird flu and pandemic questions. How about asking these investment-specialists questions about investing. What’s their estimated return on investment and the time horizon of selling the supported companies. Who are the partners and who the competitors in this field (there are dozens of other big companies that invest billions in this kind of research). Interessting was the notion of Mr. Byers(?) that, when they start an investment others will immediatly chime in and spend their money too. Sounds so simple like Mariah Carey buying a skirt at H&M and other will buy the same.
You get better answers about pandemic facts from biologists. Listen for example to the podcasts of sciencefrieday.
But anyway, I’m looking forward to the Interview with your uncle. I wonder what he has to tell about diplomatic engineering.

This is the first time I have listened to coverage of this topic that wasn’t mearly designed to freak the HELL out of you. Great job, man! Good questions and down-to-earth answers. I appreciated the break from the “usual” stuff. I have come to appreicate the seriousness of the situation while at the same time I became hopeful knowing that some smart people were doing what they could to at minimize its affects. Very inforamtive. Knowledge is power!! Remember: “there are no secrets, only information you do not yet have.” :)

Finding the occasional straw of truth awash in a great ocean of confusion and bamboozle requires intelligence, vigilance, dedication and courage. But if we don’t practice these tough habits of thought, we cannot hope to solve the truly serious problems that face us — and we risk becoming a nation of suckers, up for grabs by the next charlatan who comes along.
