Online Game Galaxy Gets a New Race of Characters
Much of the story line in World of Warcraft, which now has more than 6 million paying subscribers worldwide, revolves around the strife between two competing factions, the Alliance and the Horde. Players can join either side of the fantasy conflict; the Alliance includes races like humans, dwarves and gnomes, while the Horde includes orcs, trolls and the undead.
Sounds like Second Life is a small sandbox!

Note also that although this comic strip was maybe offensive to Roger Smalls, albeit he was not mentioned there by his real name but a ficticious name “Roger Squalls” was used.
Besides: everybody is welcome to visit my “CSB Labs” in Second Life (you can find it by doing find/places and then searching for “CSB Labs”) – particularly in the weekends. You can take a sit (I have plenty of office chairs + a toilet), marvel at nice seaside view and most importantly chat with me in real-time (something like Virtaul Reality IRC). Also: if you feel uncomfortable meeting me at my labs, just go over to neutral territory like Curry Castle in SL or other place and through IM chat to me (my ID in Second Life is “Comic Senior”) just offer me teleport!

I work in IT support in a hospital. One of our consultant obsetricians has used self hypnosis on cassette tapes for years. She lends a tape to the expectant mother who listens to it on a walkman as she goes about her daily life.
The trouble is that fewer and fewer people actually have casette players nowadays. Rather than recreate the tape from scratch, the Consultant asked me if I could put it onto CD.
A fairly simple process – record onto PC using Audacity, clean it up and then export to MP3.
I then burnt it onto a CD. I also gave a copy of the MP3 file and said that if any of her patients had an iPod or MP3 player, they coud have a copy on that.
I didn’t listen to much of it. A 45 year old male like me probably would not benefit from the excercises in it! Sorry, it’s not podsafe so I can’t put up a copy.
Even if Roger never makes in into Second Life, you can all join the Roger Smalls fan club in Second Life. Just search for “smalls” in the Find->Group window.
One option for Patricia may be the Griffin Earjams… http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/earjams/ My ears are way too small for the regular earbuds to fit and they pop out on me as well. These little snap-on devices completely solve the problem.

Hey, yeah – big props to CSB.
And now, music in Second Life. Specifically, the legal side.
Getting music to play shouldn’t be all that difficult. In fact, we probably should just say it “isn’t” that difficult – since people do it all the time. What I’m wondering, though, is where it stands legally. Does playing RIAA music on SL run afoul of copyright laws? If so, strictly speaking, we really shouldn’t even be playing podsafe tunes, since there is no mechanism outside of a regular ASCAP/BMI web streaming license for that kind of agreement to be made. I’m very new to Second Life, so I don’t know the community well – maybe these issues have already been dealt with. It just seems to me like this could become a problem at some point.
