The article you wrote points out what he is not but does not say what he is. On the day of the 2004 US election, I was in Amsterdam. On the day that Theo Van Gogh was shot by an Islamic extremist. It was horribly strange to feel the change in the Netherlands during the aftermath of that shooting. The country that brought Apartheid into worldspeak suddenly was brought to confront the same challenges that people in post-911 faced. Normally open-minded people were challenged, and many coffee shops with Muslim owners were treated circumspect. The dark-skinned man was suddenly noticed in a shopping center where previously, he would have blended in with the beautifully diverse, cosmopolitan city of Amsterdam.
I’m not saying there’s nothing about Pim Fortuyn that I could support. I’m just saying I have not heard of anything he stands for that I would support.

Assasinations of Pim Fortuyn and Van Gogh are result of the fact that Dutch are racists – not only towards non-white and Muslim citizens of their country, but also towards people from east EU although they are not distinguishable by apearance from native Dutch. Since 9 days EU citizens from east EU can work without permits in UK, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Sweden, Portugal, Greece and also in the fantastic Spain. Netherlands decided to postpone decision about opening for new EU citizens till December 2006 but already everybody knows that due to elections in 2007 this decision will be negative.
The bottom line is that Dutch are racists and lack of opening to new EU citizens is FINAL AND UNDENIABLE PROOF OF THAT.
I undertstand, Adam fucking Curry that you owe your whole career, wife, daughter to 2 thigns: having US citizenship and living in Netherlands as American. No wonder that you are defending all things Dutch, however please note that you never ever was in position of Muslims and non-whites in Netherlands. I was. I know what does it mean.

Even AC confirms that he was a populist. I don’t think that most people would argue that he didn’t shake the mix a bit, but his method made him lots of enemies. Ironically, he was of course right in that the blank acceptance of every possible position as viable is a dead end.
However, “Mulit-Kulti” is not in and of itself wrong, the self-effacing posing of some of the so-called “left”, the apparent “shame” for their own culture (although, to be honest, at least in Germany, it’s more an internal debate, unless you’re not white, in which case you’ll be patiently listened to and then ignored…, the German opinion being the decisive…, ‘The [German]experts say…’ … ), obviously doesn’t lead anywhere. The whole idea is tolerance, maybe even acceptance, but not self-denegration, a renaissance, not an annihillation. It’s all about exchange, among equals. You can’t have that when elements of your society use the tolerance to destroy the very fabric of your nation.
I still return to the first question: What is it about Pim Fortuyn that anyone wants to climb on board as a platform? That you have to learn Dutch? That if you’re Muslim, you’re not welcome? I’m asking to be enlightened, not to castigate. What aspect of his populist policies did anyone listening to DSC support? Is Adam alone in considering him “exciting”? If all we hear is the BIg Lie, what is the Big Truth?

Giving Mr.Curry the benefit of the doubt, I think that the “exiting” part was actually the “straight talk”. I’ve not visited Holland, but there are Turkish families in Germany that prevent their daughters from leaving the house without a male chaperon after they begin to menstruate, which means they can’t even attend school. This type of behavior does cause problems.
The conservatives over here focus on creating hate, bastardizing any sort of “alternate” view. Naming the things that you’re not comfortable with, not denigrating a whole faith, is a totally differerent story. It’s selective and more intelligent.
That said, I have to repeat that I was certainly not comfortable with Mr.Fortuyn’s method (at least what I read in the German/French/American Press).

You’re right about conservative, fearful Muslims causing problems. Open up the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Berliner Zeitung, Frankfurter Rundschau…. it’s not an uncommon story. The difference is, he wasn’t quite like an Edmund Stoiber, who sees “Multi-Kulti” in a quarter where only Turkish people live. He was more articulate, and, I think, not having read anything to the contrary, that he mastered the grammar of his mother tongue. Although Stoiber is a very, very good example of this, his “compatriots” are very, very poor examples of people who are capable of cogent, grammatiically-correct, thought. At least Fortuyn was not a travesty of human evolution.
Pim Fortuin was a likable charismatic openly gay intellectual who was a major threat to the political esthablishment,that’s why he was shot.
Theo van Gogh was a different sort of guy,willing to openly provoke groups of people who responded to that in a medieval way with total disrespect to the legal system.

How do you embrace an intolerant culture under the rubric of tolerance? I’m not sure you can do that. To welcome an intolerant position in the name of tolerance is to welcome trouble. While it sounds very high-minded to fight intolerance with tolerance, history seems to demonstrate that the intolerant merely take advantage of an open culture to breed more intolerance.
At least my impression as an American is the only thanks returned for welcoming large numbers of Muslim immigrants into the EU has been riots, bombings and assassinations. As long as Islam is willing to declare jihad I think that should be viewed as aggressive intolerance which ought to be soundly renounced before being embraced within multiculturalism.

Shut up about the Dutch decision to keep the borders partly closed. The ‘new’ EU members, like Poland, should first try and show that they are worthy new EU members. The Netherlands has a pretty good track record going back to 1958 when they founded the EEG together with Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and Luxemburg.
Anyone who wants to say that the Dutch do not support the world system that is built on the racist legacy of European Imperialism can look to the fact that, like Denmark, they are in the “Army of the Willing” liberating oil supplies in Iraq, Nigeria, and other holes in the ground, and this famous position from 2001:

Perhaps the EU should emulate the American colonial model of land usurpation: Bunch of white people overwhelm original red people through sheer numbers, intentional spread of disease, direct warfare and destroying food sources. More white people come, and each new wave hates the last wave, and is hated by them too … but the new ones do the dirty work. Eventually build enough power to export the model, destroy indegenous cultures across the planet (’cus they pray funny while sitting on enormous wealth).
Face it, folks, Earth will be a place of peace when organized religion disappears, and when racial hatred is impossible because we all look the same. The only trick will be maintaining a liveable environment long enough for that to happen. Don’t hold your breath.

But with the media declaring it a ’suicide’ from the get go I guess it had to have been a suicide right? Wouldn’t an ‘accident’ been a more probable beginning? Media establishments get hijacked all the time. Think UdssR and pravda. Now think of BBC and CNN ABC NBC etc. etc. same thing just a little slicker. Nobody wants ‘multiculturalism’ except the big wigs and they just ram it down everyones throat via direct investment/control of media outlets.
